Since then, three more couples have been born as world champions from Asia. It has now become a hot competition where many excellent dancers from all over Asia compete with each other here in Tokyo.Twenty years later, the champions of the Asian Championships are now seeded for the finals of the World Championships in both Stage and Pista!

Stage Category

The couples must decide on the tango piece to be danced first, and then create their own dance freely to that piece. They are free to create their own intro, leaps, footwork, pauses between songs, end poses, etc. to the tune of the song. The length of the song is allowed to be about 4 minutes.

Pista Category

About 8~10 couples go up on the stage together, improvise to the tune of 3 songs played by the DJ, and compete with each other by going around the stage in a counterclockwise direction to see how good their steps are. Basically, it is a competition to see how couples can express the “chic” of tango. There are rules such as not lifting the legs high, but recently the range of expression has been expanding little by little. This is the most widely loved tango competition.

Señor Category

This category is for couples where one of them is over 50 years old at the time of the competition. This category focuses on the charms of the regular dance, as different ages feel “chic” in different ways. Obligation to disclose documents confirming age at the time of application. A popular category these days, but not linked to the World Championships. Not linked to the World Championships.

Milonga category

At the start of the World Championships, there was some controversy regarding the rules of the pista. Some people thought that there were too many regulations and that it would be boring, so the Milonga category was created to allow more freedom of expression. In general, faster and more lively choreography is allowed. It is not linked to the World Championships.

Waltz category

The Waltz Division is for couples competing in the choreography of the waltz, one of the many South American waltzes that have been heard and performed throughout the tango world. Many different waltz forms have developed in Latin America, and many of the waltzes in the tango world are also very flowing and tasteful. This competition is not linked to the World Championships.

Jack & Gill Category

This category was originally created from another genre of couples dance competition. The couples in this category are divided into a leader and a follower, and they compete for the best individual performance by changing partners on stage by tugging and pulling one song at a time. In the couples competition, the dancers must have a partner in order to dance, but in this method, the dancers are free to choose a partner, allowing them to enjoy tango dancing while competing in their individual skills. ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.

JUDGES

Please wait for a while for the announcement of the judges!
We will also need a little more time to announce the artists who will host, DJ, and demonstrate at this year’s Asian Championships.

Since this Championship is the 20th anniversary of the event, the judges were selected mainly from those who have been active in the World Championships and the Asian Championships. In addition, in accordance with the rules that were in effect in Buenos Aires last year, contestants who have received private dance instruction or advice from the judges within 45 days prior to the day of the competition will be required to notify the judges in advance, and those judges will not be able to judge the contestant in question. The jury must also declare any Contestant who has received private dance lessons or advice within 45 days. This rule is very strict. Please inform the Executive Committee from the announcement of the results on the day of the competition until the end of the championship. If the declaration is not made and it is later discovered, the contestant will be disqualified. This is a common rule for competitions, but it is an important one. If you find out that there has been a violation of this rule on the day of the championship, when the judging results are announced, please be sure to notify the Executive Committee of this fact. If a judge makes a mistake in this application, he or she will not be allowed to be a judge, this time and forever. It is of utmost importance for any championship to be fair. We would like to ask for the cooperation of all other contestants and spectators.
